The Ground Beneath The Lines by Resident Artist Amisha Maharjan

What happens when land that was once understood as a source of sustenance, livelihood, and community becomes increasingly understood as property, commodity and a sellable asset? My work explores how the meaning, identity and usage of land have changed over the years particularly within my own community and family.

Amisha Maharjan is an emerging artist with a strong foundation in studio art, working across a variety of techniques and mediums, from textile crocheting and paper weaving to pen and ink, watercolor, and more. She has completed her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from Kathmandu University, School of Arts, Department of Art and Design. Her artworks are experimental, letting materials and processes guide the outcome rather than following a fixed style or theme. She is proficient in digital tools like Illustrator and Blender, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to create a flexible artistic practice. Through installation and mixed media works, she looks at how agricultural land and the traditional practices tied to land are changing as communities in Nepal move toward urban life.
