Grade: Grade 1 and above
Workshop length: 180 minutes
In this workshop, students explore the craft of mask making, which holds deep cultural significance in Nepal. Various dynasties—including the Licchavi, Thakuri, Malla, and Shah—have contributed to the development and sophistication of Nepali mask artistry.
It revolves around intricately painting a base miniature mask using vibrant motifs and colors inspired by various deities. A sample mask will be provided as a reference. After completing the artwork, students can take their painted mask home.
Madhyapur mask making has over 33 years of experience in the handicraft industry. However, we were later officially registered as a company in the year 2068 B.S.
"We have been conducting art workshops since 2070 B.S. (2013 A.d) We also did the informative sessions with Rato Bangla School back then in the year 2018 A.D
We have our guiding motto " Crafting Stories, Preserving Traditions, and Celebrating Heritage". Conducting these workshops is more than teaching a craft, its an experience we want to give to our participants where culture, creativity and community all comes together.
What motivates us the most is witnessing the moment our participants connect deeply with the traditional mask making processes as well as mask painting experience. Whether they are locals rediscovering their roots or foreigners seeing this kind of things for the first time every participants leaves more than just a painted mask, they leave with a story. A story which they will remember for the lifetime. A story of creativity, cultural appreciation and personal expression. This is what motivates us the most."
