“Landscapes of Mustang
The artist Tsering Phonjo Gurung was born on the 25th of July 1981 in Chosar, Upper Mustang, Nepal. Already when he was very young he loved to paint and his talent was discovered. With 16 years he began his Thangka painting training with Lhakpa Lama in Chosar. One year later he joined the School of the Tibetan Thangka painter Tenzing Nyninge from Shigatse in Bouddha for four years and, moreover, became interested in Landscape Painting as well. He was studying thenafter with renowned teachers Pushpa Ale and Rupak Rai for three years Landscape painting in Bouddha.
In Upper Mustang he has worked with Italian wall painting restorer Luigi Fieni at the Thubchen Gompa, and he was selected to participate at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts already three times.
He is not only a skilled Thangka and Landscape painter but also has worked at different Monasteries all over Nepal to decorate these places with wall paintings, as for example recently at the Phuntsog Tashi Choeling Gompa in Pokhara.”
