In an attempt to preserve the present, many turn to archiving through photographs, journals, and films. Visual Artist Shaili Malla adds a translucent layer to her art practice as she reminisces the moments that moulded her. Visual memories are bound to distort and fade over time but our other sensations intensify our memories. In “Echoes from Yesterday,” Shaili walks us into her personal archives that she can no longer experience or revisit physically. Through her medium, she skillfully intertwines visual images with tactile, auditory, and olfactory elements that reinforce and enrich our recollections. In this exhibition, Shaili delivers tangible frames of her retentions by repeatedly blending layers of memories that frequently visit her.”
