A traditional music workshop with facilitator Phul Kumar Bamjan, on the introduction of the Tamang instrument “Damphu.” In this 2-hour session, participants discovered traditional rhythms like “Selo,” “Fapare,” and “Khandoge.” The session also gave insight on the significance and importance of the Damphu in history and in contemporary Tamang culture and community.
About the facilitator : Phul Kumar Bamjan is a self-taight Damphu player with over 20 years of experience. His passion for learning, playing and teaching Damphu stems from its rich musical history, which was once barely recognized in the mainstream. He was drven by a mission to preserve and promote Tamang music and identity. Through Tamang Dajang, a publisher of books and a musical group dediated to Tamang music, Phul Kumar has been working to popularize the instrument and commercialize it through training and musical events.
