MINIATURE MASK PAINTING WORKSHOP

The mini mask painting workshop was organised by Taragaon Next in collaboration with Mask Nepa, the traditional mask mask makers from Thimi, Bhaktapur as a part of the festival INDIFLUENCE on the 9th and 10th of November 2024.

The tradition of mask painting has been practiced in many cultures in Nepal. From ritual masks to masks of gods and goddesses, this immersive process of crafting each mask with their details and then intricately painting with the rich and vibrant motifs and colors were initially started by the “Chitrakars” but now is more spread in other communities. The sacred masks of the “Nava Durga” representing the “nine faces of goddess Durga,” shows the different expressions and avatars and the colors and designs used in each tell a story.
