The Symposium, Decolonizing the Feminine: Art, Agency, and Gendered Politics in South Asia took place on the 23rd of January 2–5 PM at Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu. A prequel and part of the exhibition Feminist Futures: Art, Activism, and South Asian Womanhood, which opened on Saturday 25th at Taragaon Next, curated by Dr Arshiya Lokhandwala.
This symposium explored key themes emerging from the forthcoming exhibition by delving into the practices of the participating artists in the exhibition, interrogating the entangled legacies of patriarchy, colonialism, and socio-religious structures. Set within the complex cultural landscape of Kathmandu, it convened ten leading voices in feminist art whose work functions as critical sites of resistance, subversion, and reconstruction offering new perspectives on destabilizing normative frameworks of gendered representation.
