What was something that made you laugh your heart out recently, smile or even made you sad/cry?

Come and join us on this 2-day stopmotion animation workshop facilitated by Ukrainian filmmaker Polina Piddubna where you will be learning to create animation videos and relive the memories that remind us about our humanity.

 
Learnings from the workshop:
  • Stop Motion Fundamentals: Gain an introduction to the basics of stop motion animation and its application in storytelling.
  • Storytelling & Creativity: Explore various storytelling approaches, fostering creative intuition and the ability to find compelling visual narratives.
  • Concept Development: Learn to use personal ideas and themes to conceptualize a stop motion video.
  • Pre-Production:  Skills like scriptwriting and drawing storyboards/comics to plan the animation effectively.
  • Animation & Sound: Practice the core skill of animating a fragment and recording complementary sounds.
  • Screening: Participants will also get to screen their final creations at a showcase on January 3rd, 2026.

Polina Piddubna

Filmmaker, artist and activist with Ukrainian and Central Asian Tatar and
Bashqort roots. Polina was born and raised in Kharkiv, started her career in Kyiv, and
has been living in Berlin since 2019. She has a bachelor's degree in animation and is
currently doing her master's as an animation director at the Film University Babelsberg
Konrad Wolf in Potsdam. Polina also organises social and educational projects, works at
film festivals and does artistic research on decolonial topics.

Workshop

During the workshop, participants will get introduced to the basics of stop motion animation and its application in storytelling. They will explore various storytelling approaches, fostering creative intuition and the ability to find compelling visual narratives. Furthermore, they’ll gain insights on how to use personal ideas and themes to conceptualize a stop motion video. Skills like scriptwriting and drawing storyboards/comics to plan the animation will also be part of the workshop.

Participants will also get to have their creations screened at a showcase on January 3rd, 2026.
